Hi,

We have a site with Approx 10 Cisco 2610 Routers, All routers have ethernet cards running 10 Half Duplex. These are connecting into 3500 switches, with the ports also running at 10 Half ( All Static Set ). Heres the problem. I want to upgrade them to run 10 FULL Duplex because of masses of collisions and defered packets. The switches set to 10 FULL no issue, however some of the routers dont seem to want to set to full duplex, even thought it states in the config full duplex, CDP complains about a duplex mismatch, Full Duplex the remote and and Half duplex this end.

Anyone seen this before??

I had the same problem with a cisco 2612, I unpluged the cable, put the port into shutdowm then no half-duplex then no shut, and plugged back in and the port was fine.

Visit for free Cisco rack access.

Hi,

tried this 5 times in a row and did`nt make any difference, guess there much be some kind of bug.

Cheers, Lee.

Do a show CDP neighbor detail and you should be able to see which device is set to half duplex.

Hi,

Its the router running at 10 Half, even though the config states 10 FULL, a show controllers ethernet 0/0 even states it running at 10 FULL. however cdp is complaining the its running at 10 HALF, a show cdp neigh details shows the switch running at the other end which is set at 10 FULL

So in the show detail there were no devices anywhere set to half?? There has to be a device sitting somewhere set to half. Do show CDP neighbor det from both sides. If you are running RIP a device somewhere set to half would trigger a mis-match error when RIP advertises itself. Have you tried saving config and reloading the routers and switches involved? Might be just something stuck in a cache or something.

Hi,

Sorry , maybe im not explaining things properly.

Reproduced in a lab
One Cisco 2612 router, One Cisco 3500 Switch, Cisco Ethernet 0/0 is connected into the 3500 Fa0/1.

Cisco Switch Fa0/1 is statically set to 10 FULL
Cisco Router E0/0 is statically set to 10 FULL.
Show run on both shows they are running at 10 FULL
Show controller ethernet 0/0 on the cisco router states is running 10 FULL.

CDP on the cisco 2612 router is complaining via CDP that the cisco 2612 router ( itself ) is running at 10 HALF, and the other end ( cisco 3500 switch ) is running 10 FULL.

Hope thats a little clearer.

OK....
First...did you reload both devices after making this change?
If yes and no change then are there any other network modules in the router...NM-1E?

try to do a network stress test and see if there's any FCS error with this 10Full-10Full configuration

Hi,

I agree, its does look to be a red herring by CDP. No duplex missmatch errors, however still disconcerting. Ive upgraded the code from 12.0 to 12.2. All is now well. Plan to do this for all of the other 12.0 routers.

Thanks for your input guys, Lee.
