Just got a Cisco 2610XM. It has 1 ethernet port, 1 console port, and 1 AUX port. I know how routers work and what they do, but I don't know how to get into it and program it. I have hooked it up several ways with no luck. The instructions from Cisco are useless. Help please.

You have to connect the router to your pc thru the serial port via the console cable which is connected to the console port on the router. You must have a terminal emulator like hyperterm or tera term set up for 9600,8,n,1 and set up for vty on your pc . This will give you a access to the router . Most new routers come with the correct cable to connect to the console port .

ok, easy enough for the serial, b/c it came with the cables, but what is vty?

Sorry skip the vty comment I was thinking about configing the router . Once you hook the cables up to the serial port on the router and get hyperterm working you should be able to get into the router.
