Hello,
Recently we went into upgrade of our cisco 2509's from a 4 meg to 8 meg flash. I got an error message as - "Err: Invalid chip set" .
I am running 12.0 IOS code and after this meesage the show version see this new memory stick and every thing looks normal. Just wondering if error message has any impact or is it an cosmetic error.
I remember that cisco has error message with a very low severity level and would iike to know if this is one of them.
The steps i have taken to change the memory stick from 4 to 8 is as follows -
1. Make sure that with the old stick in place you have a proper route to a tftp server. Ping the tftp server to make sure you have a route to it.
2. Change the config register to 0x2101 to boot the router in rx-boot mode.
3. Next check the flash for the current image - do a show flash all command.
It will show you that the current flash is in read mode.
4. Now power shut the router and then do the memory upgrade.
5. Now power on the router. The router will come up in rxboot mode.
as - router(boot)>
6. Now go to enable mode and then type show flash all. You should see the new flash as in rad/write mode.
7. Now do a copy tftp flash command.
8. The router will send a request to the tftp server and then cancel the request to ask you if you want to do a flash erase. Say yes to it.
9.If every thing goes right you will see the new ios image download from tftp server.
10. Now type config t. Depending on the case you will see a blank line. on this line type config-register 0x2102.
11. Write mem and reload the router.

Here is where i run into problem because after the router boots up, the error message does not go away but the router boots just fine and every thing looks good like sh ver see the new stick, show flash err does not show any errors.

The memory is 8 M kingston.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
