Does anyone have the answer to this please? We have a 2505 cisco router which is to be routing packets for anywhere between 60 - 600 users to a transparent proxy server for the net. Can it handle this load, if not should we go for a 2600 series or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The router spec depends on the packet per second rate, which is determined by the users activity, and also the speed of the slowest link in the chain.

Whilst I would not consider the 2505 suitable for that amount of users, its really a branch office router, if your Internet feed is a 2meg or lower it should do. Can this unit run IP CEF, if so that should lower the CPU load.

However if the link on the Internet side of the proxy is any higher you should really consider a more powerful router. Check out CCO for the router data sheets to give a packet per second switching rate suitable for your application.
