I have several Cisco 2501s in my home lab. Most still have IOS 11.1 or 11.3. Several of them have NVRAM that is not working. Can anyone tell me how fix NVRAM problems? Examples are: start-up config not working even if saved properly, "enable password xxxx" command accepted but not working, etc. The only thing I found on cisco.com was using the "config-register 0x2102" command, but this had no effect after reloading.
I have found no replacement NVRAM chip for sale for 2500s. Can you tell me the problem and repair?
Thanks.

We had a problem with a 3661 and had to get maintenance on it and have Cisco send out a new mainboard. Apparently the flash and SDRAM is user-replaceable on that model, but not the NVRAM. I can't say for the 2501, but you could open it (or check for a diagram on Cisco's site) and see if the NVRAM is made up of removeable modules.
