Cisco 1720 gibberish

Hi Everyone,
I have a cisco 1720 which gives a gibberish output on the Hyperterminal.It won't go into rommon mode for a new IOS install.The OK LED blinks endlessly,looks like the POST fails.Does that mean the CPU is gone?.
Anyone came across this before.
Any help will be highly appreciated.

It is possible someone has changed the config register and set the terminal speed, parity or number of stop bits to something non standard. It might be worth changing the Hyperterminal settings to see if you can get some legible output.

Many thanks to ADB100. Yes the HyperTerminal Baud rate was at 115200 which i had set for a fast flash reinstall using the console(not tftp) and had forgotten to reset back to the usual 9600bps after a failed reinstall.
