Hello,

We have just installed a Cisco 1710 and am having some problems. First of all, when browsing the web it takes forever to discover a website and then no time at all to download it. Also sometimes it reports that it cannot find the server (Refreshing will usually work).

Secondly, we are using static NAT to provide access to our internal ftp server. However frequently users will be timed-out.

FYI: Our ISP is AT&T Canada and we have a T1 link.

Thanks,
Derek

It sounds like the DNS server that the clients are using is having problems resolving domain names. If you go to a DOS command line, type "nslookup to see if the first nameserver is timing out. Check with your service provider for the DNS servers you should be using on the client end.

FTP timeouts are probably due to the FTP server's configuration. Depending on the vendor, there is usually an inactivity timeout setting on the server. Also, check the connectivity to the ftp server, try pinging it constantly ("ping -t hostname") as you connect to it, to see if the latency goes up significantly.

Hope this helps.
