I am switching from T-1 fractional to business dsl and need to change from the Cisco 1601r router (which is limited to 2mbps) to something faster.
Is a Cisco 1605r (with 24mb ram/12mb flash) a good choice. (I think it works for this because I can go 10mb ethernet in and out)
Thanks!!

The 1601r and 1605r both utilize 10-base-t half duplex ethernet and are considered end of life with Cisco. If you are looking for a good dual ethernet router take a look at the Cisco 871 or 871W(wireless). If these are to pricy then look at a used Cisco 806 of 831 router. With the 831 at least the four port lan side is 10/100 and the WAN port although it is only speed of 10 can be set to full duplex. Also the 831 is VPN capable and can be configured to work as a VPN server for remote VPN clients.

Hi

The 1600 can't support the standard ADSL WIC available from WIC, i.e. there is no support for PPPoA. It does however support PPPoE (client only) so it can run this if your ISP provides this.

If this is does not meet with your requirements, the entry level Cisco device available is the Soho 97. Itdoes everything the 800 does but with a cheaper price tag. It's ideal for a small number of users and has a built-in switch available.
