What sort of cable do I need to connect two 1603 routers back to back via the serial (WIC1T) ports to simulate a WAN connection, and where (in the UK) would I get them.

Thanx

Hi

Give Black Box a ring (0870 9010750)and talk to their technical advisors. You will need two cables with Cisco HD connectors for the WIC end. If you get X.21 type cables, one DCE and one DTE,they will connect together and do your job. Should be about £60.
Short cables for exactly this purpose can be bought cheaper on the www, from the States.

Just remember one router will need to be set up DCE and supply the clocking, and the other will need to be DTE.

Hi mylchreest,

As far as I know, the WIC-1T cards are designed to go from Cisco 60-pin "5-in-1" connectors to RS-232, RS-449, V.35, X.21 or EIE recepticles. If both 1603's have WIC-1T's in them, then you want a double ended Cisco 60-pin "5-in-1" connector cable. Whether they exist and where you can buy them from, I have no idea.

If you want to simulate WAN conditions, try connecting the WIC on one router to the S/T ISDN interface on the other using an RJ-45. That'll work too.

Hope that helps!
