Can anybody explain the difference(s)?

They both summarize many consecutive networks into a summary address and they both reduce routing table size !

what is the difference?

Thanks in advance,

Daniel,

CIDR stands for Classless Interdomain Routing. It allows an organization to take and IP subnet, break it down into smaller subnets, and have those smaller subnets still routable on the internet. In other words, the internet has implemented CIDR as a way to route broken down subnets whereas before the internet would not allow the breaking down of subnets.

Summarization is the act of taking broken down subnets that reside behind one gateway and summarize them into one route to have less entries on the routing table. Almost sounds like it is the exact opposite of what CIDR is trying to accomplish, but in reality they are 2 completely seperate things. "There are two different kinds of people in this world: those
who finish what they start, and"
