hi , don't say duhh yet, some of us are new to all this.

Anyway how do you check a specific users - say internet activity off a server - Windows 2000 server. I know there is the easy way of downloading or buying some software that can actually do that but i was hoping some one could give me a little step by step of how i can monitor activity on a specific IP address without installing a third party software.

and yes...its the stupid questions that make you guys think you are smart (I mean that in a good way).

you can install a tool called netmon on the PC in question...
its a network monitor, so you can see they innovated even in the name of the program :)

if you want to monitor all traffic from a certain PC to and from internet, that passes via your server, install it on the server (it a windows component)... then you capture all packets and you can filter the results for a specific IP.

Its fairly easy to do, quite intuitive.... you dont really need a step-by-step. Just get in there and experiment a little.. it's how us guys got smart in the first place...

broke it enough to know what not to do, eliminates a lot of possibilities
