I have two cells (E9 and M9) that can hold email addresses.

I need to set it up so that when an email address is entered into one of the cells, it checks the other cell to make sure nothing has been entered into that cell and if there already IS an email address in the other cell, pop up a message box stating they cannot do that then not allow the update in the 2nd email address cell.

Hopefully that makes sense and is doable (I know how to do it in Access tables but not in Excel).

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Hi Nathaniel,

You can do this with Data Validation.

Select cells E9 and M9
Select Data > Validation from the Menu
Choose Custom from the Allow dropdown
Enter [blue]=OR($E$9="",$M$9="")[/blue] under Formula
Press OK

Enjoy,
Tony
