Checkboxes are looking bad

I added some checkboxes to my excel spreadsheet. I set their backcolor to transparent.

Now when I click on them they sometimes get a white border which looks really bad. Sometimes they get the border and sometimes they do not.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue? Is it just a property of the checkbox?
