Check for a character in the column

Is there a way to check for the particular character in the column, and then put the first part of the word (before this character) to one place, and the second part (after this character) - to another?

look at patindex in BOL

[blue]DBomrrsm[/blue]

Can you give us an example of what you are trying to do? PATINDEX (or CHARINDEX) should work for you along with the SUBSTRING command.
