I need to create a stacked column chart (3 data sources) with a secondary axis for a line chart.

The left axis needs to be in hours for the stacked column with the right axis being number of men and the bottom axis as week number. I have tried everything that I can think of and am getting no where. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Alex

You need to layout your data as follows:
Week stack1 stack2 stack3 Men
1 5 4 6 12
2 6 6 8 16

etc etc

then, create a basic stacked column chart
right click on series 4 (men) and choose format Series
Go to the axis tab and change to secondary axis
click ok
right click on the series again, choose Chart Type
Make sure the Options>Apply to selection is ticked and choose Line chart

Thanks for that, When I try to format the men series though there is no axis tab. Is this only in later versions of excel. Should have said really, I'm using office 97.

Thanks
Alex

PS I've heard the valleys are fine but I now live in Nottingham, should really change my name to

I'm using 97 as well
What options do you get if you right click on the Men series and select Format Series ???

ps - I moved to Nottingham (West Bridgford) as well but from Mcr

Small world :) Rgds

Patterns Shape Data Labels Series Order Options.

Its a very small world indeed, currently house hunting around West Bridgeford for a friend of mine. There every night usually. How bizarre

Cheers

I think this'll be easier if you can send me the file - I'm using excel 97 and I get an axis option - as far as I know, this is standard thru all versions of excel. Are you creating the chart as a standard stack chart with 4 series to start with ??

If you want to send the file, it's:

Answered via private email - problem was the use of a 3D chart which doesn't have a secondary axis option. Changed to 2D and followed my own instructions - now works (I hope)

Simple Answer but I probably wouldn't have got there anytime soon. Aesthetically pleasing is not always the best option. Many thanks to Geoff
