It is possible to change the date on which a program file was created?

I have an old shareware game that I would like to play. It has a time limit on it. I am unable to download a fresh version so I thought that if I could change the creation date then I would be able to install it and run it again.

Any ides how I could go about this?

Not really in the spirit of these forums - if you want to keep using shareware you should pay for it. Is the supplier still in existence (ie, could you pay for it)?

I realise that, Wolluf and I would like to pay for it, but if I can't find the supplier then it is a bit difficult.

If supplier no longer available, then I'd say probably ok to try to tweak this. Its not usually the date the program file is created that matters - will help there if it is. Usually it writes a file or registry entry (or both). This can be when its installed - or first time its run (or both!). As its already installed, you can't monitor what install does - but you can monitor registry entries and files used by the program using filemon & regmon from You should hopefully discover the appropriate entry and how to reset it.

PS. Some older apps can be fooled just by putting system date back.

Thanks for the tip, Wolluf, the petges download did the trick.
