Greetings,

We currently have one storage node attached to our networker server through a firewall. We are in the process of upgrading both the storage node and the jukebox associated with it. To make things crazy we are changing the hostname of the storage node, but keeping the IP address the same (not my idea!). My question is where on the networker server do I need to change references to the storage node? Also do we need to add any license information to the new storage node?

The networker server is a sunfire v880, the old storage node is a sun450 and the new storage node is a sunfire 440. We are running Networker 7.1.1.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Congratulation to this weird idea - why making things simple if there is a complicated way as well ...

The NetWorker configuration is the easy part - you will especially need to adjust clients and remote devices. But with other hostnames and old IP addresses you will most likely end up with a lot of problems with respect to the name resoultion and this must be 100% unique in all directions. Another obvious troublemaker will be the client id which you can not change once a client has been defined.

I strongly recommend not to do this unless you want to start all over.

Thanks 605, we have decided to keep the same hostname.

Is there a way to save all indexes from the networker server to both the storage node and networker server? We want to have all indexes in both locations in case of a disaster. Our storage node is in a different location.

A very good idea. In fact you have to clone these save sets to that storage node. Yes, customers do this a lot.

Connecting the storage node to the networker server through the firewall? How many ports did you have to open? I know if you just backup through one is a WHOLE lot, is the storage node idea the way to not have to open as many ports?
