I bought my laptop in the UK but now live in Australia and have changed the region code for the DVD player for Australia via the properties too many times and now it is locked for the UK.

Is there a registry setting I can change to make the default region 4 instead of 2?

Sorry, this is contained in the firmware of the drive. Contact the drive mfg to see if flashing the firmware will restore the counter to "0"...

Hope this Helps

@Rvnguy - no it will not... sorry, but the flashing of the Firmware will only update the said firmware not the REGION CODES...

@gbell - three solutions to your problem (from the most expensive to the cheapest)...

1.) Install a new Drive...

2.) use a Region Killer, such as AnyDVD from SlySoft, but beware of the Local Laws, as in some countries this software is actually illegal for use...

3.) FLASH drive with a Region Free Firmware (rvnguy this is not the same as a Regional Firmware)... beware though, that flashing can cause the drive to become useless, when you flash the wrong firmware or you experience a powerout, other than that it is pretty safe to do... but restriction also apply as in nr. 2, about the legality of doing so... Here you will find more info

Or see if you drive has a Region reset utility available for it (I know LiteOn does).

Thanks guys, I'll try flashing the firmware.
