Changing print properties locks me up

I have a hp 960c that when I attempt to change the print properties inside a program the entire system locks up. It will not even respond to a ctrl+alt+delete. I am running Win98 and have tried to unistall and reinstall the printer to no avail. Do you have any suggestions?
