Hi, I have to fix a newsletter for someone. They have some large bitmap photos in a newsletter, which make it too big for emailing. I want to compress them but when I copy and paste the images into a photo editing application they look terrible. Is there a way around this. I don't have the original images.
Thanks for any help :)

If you doubleclick the picture, it bring up the picture toolbar. The fifth icon from the right is to compress picture. Try pressing on this and then saving your doc to see if it's smaller.

Hi Ben,

That option isn't available in all versions (eg Word 2000 and earlier).

The surest way to reduce the impact of embedded images is to scale them to the required size in an image editing application. Indeed, simply copying the scaled image out of Word into MS Paint, then copying it from there and pasting it back into Word will alter the image resolution to suit.

Cheers

Thanks for that gentlemen, in the end I did a printscreen to get the images and then compressed them. I keep having the problem that when I copy and past out of Word into Paint or Photoshop that the image goes really wierd and is unusable. I was wondering if other people have that? :) cheers Stephen
