I have a meridian m8x24-ds system in the phone closet and my boss just bought new phones RCA Model 25423/24 to replace the old meridian norstar phones. In the manual it says works with any RJ14C wall jack. Does that mean that they are not compatible with this system? Do we have to disable the system?

Thank you,

This is a 4 line business speaker phone and no it is not compatable with this system. Basically it would replace the system. Hope you don't have more than 4 lines.

So I would have to disconnect the phone system and just use these phones in a 2 line wall jack? We only have 3 lines it is a small office.

You have to check the specific installation instructions but yes you would wire the lines directly to the set from what I have seen. I don't know where you are located so if you are in a lightning prone area I would use Oneac protectors on the incoming lines so you don't fry the phones in a lightning storm. Place these protectors between the Incoming line and the set.

I am in Colorado. I will do that. I appreciate your help. The installation instructions are no help, they just say to plug into a 2 line wall jack.
I plugged the phone into one jack that I thought was not working and it is the only one that is just a straight phone jack with one line and then the phone worked. So I determined that it was a different system.

If you have a working m8x24 system, why would you want to go backwards to a manual system.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

The guy with the money (his boss) does not always have the brains. Buy cheap get cheap.

yep that would be it. The phones look cool. Yeah I don't know why either. I am just the tech person.

To make these phones work you would need someone to rewire all the wall jacks and move the crossconnects in yout telephone closet.

Is your 8x24 working now

How many phones do you have working in the office now?

How many phones did he buy?

The phones partially work. We only have 4 phones in the office. He bought only 4 phones.
That is what I thought about the rewiring. I guess that it was in the office before he bought it and it half worked.

You will need a phone tech to do the rewiring.

is there antything wrong with the 8x24 system?

Yes there is something wrong. I am not quite sure, but he is not wanting to use the system anylonger. The phones that came with the system are old and not functioning and he does not have a password etc for the phones.

Does that make sense?

If you get a person that knows the Norstar, he could get in and make it work. either way your going to need someone to fix it.

also in the future, this is the Nortel PBX forum, you should have put this in the Nortel Norstar forum.

I know it's confusing!

oh okay I was (am) confused.
Thanks for helping me out.

well the system says meridian but the phones say norstar.
sorry about that

Meridian is the Family name of all Nortel's systems.

Norstar is the Nortel Key system, So your system is a Nortel Meridian Norstar 8x24

Nortel Meridian system is the Nortel PBX's models
Option 11c though 81C

The way it is listed in these forums is wrong and confusing and I have asked for them to change it to make it easier.
