IE
I am new to Interbase (very new) and I have been asked to test it out for my company. We are changing over from MS Access. I have downloaded Interbase on my pc it will eventually be used over the network. My boss told me that he wanted to use Interbase server only and internet explorer as an interface not Interbase client. Can anyone help me here as I am really confused as where to start? Thank you

HI loneill -

Im not 100% sure what your boss means by not using an Interbase client. In order to access Interbase you need to have installed either the Interbase Server or client installed.

Do you mean to used IE in an intranet setting and have a HTML front-end to the database ? In which case you will need to either write a java or CGI interface. In either case you will need to to have the following :

1. Web server software (Apache or similar- I prefer OmniHTTPD
2. The appropriate Interbase drivers installed (these need to be installed and configured on the server.) In the case of Java - you will need Interclient (available from Borland.) If you go for the CGI option, you will need the Perl Interbase Module.

Hope this helps some.
