Let me get this out of the way: I'm a raging idiot and sometimes the smallest things escape me so please be gentle. for some reason, I'm unable to navigate to other drives from the XP command prompt. There is nothing wrong with my installation, I just don't know the proper commandline for doing so. Going from dir to dir withing C is no problem but I cannot change dir to the H Drive for example. Would a kind soul here post the proper command structure for navigating to different drives? Thanks in advance :)

Type the letter of the drive and a colon. e.g. to switch from the c drive to the D drive - C:\>D: [return]

Sival" has given you the correct and simple answer. If you want more detail and a bit of a laugh you can read these.

And a similar question... is there a tweak to make the command window open with the prompt C:\> the way MS-DOS did?

I don't like opening the command window to the default
C:\Documents and Settings\Frank>

Frank4d,

Have you tried Right-clicking the Command Prompt shortcut, in Properties change the "Start in" box from %HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% to C:/, or wherever you want it to start?
