changing a text field to dates

I have dates in a table which are currently as text in the format of 01/jan/05, 01/feb/05 etc

Is there an easy way of changing this column in the table so that the format is date/month rather than a text field.

Have you tried to change the data type in table design view ?

i have. but it changes it to 01/01/05, 02/01/05.etc. I need it to be in the UK format of dd/mm/yyyy and not mm/dd/yyyy.

Any ideas??

Don't confuse storage and presentation layouts.
Provided your data type is now DateTime you simply have to change the display format.
