I have tried to install gpmc on win 2k server but wont let me. So how do i put in force full XP compatable XP policys from a 2000 DC?
Any help appriciated

Yoy should install on one of your Windows XP workstations Windows 2003 Administration tools (you can download it from there)

Then open 'AD Users and computers', connect to your DC and open for editing one of your group policies. This will automatically update templates on your DC with Windows XP specific settings.

After this update you should edit GP only from Windows XP or Windows 2003, do not try edit them on Windows 2000, you will receive bunch of error messages and cannot access Windows XP specific settings.

Karlisa, I think you might just have answered a problem I have. I have just taken over a 2000 domain with XP clients, and when I go into GPMC to edit the policies on an XP client all the XP settings are missing. So I think that GPMC must have been used after on the 2000 server. Is there anyway back from this mess?

Open the policies from Windows XP and all XP settings will be back, in fact they are there but you cannot access them if GPO is opened from Win2000 system. IMHO there is no way to edit WinXP specific GP settings on Win2000.

Thanks, I reinstalled the admin pack on a XP client and everything was available again.
