change URL of different frame

I have a javascript function that I want to be able to change the location of a frame in my frameset. I think its something like
document.frames.mytargetframe.location='newpage.htm';

But it doesn't work...am I close?

parent.frames[2].document.location='newpage.htm';

or else top.frames.mytargetframe.location='newpage.htm';
