Change SQL 2000 Version from Personal Edition to Standard Edition

Hi,

I am currently incorrectly using a SQL 2000 Personal Edition in a multi user networked environment. I have now acquired SQL 2000 Standard Edition & need to implement this ASAP.

Can I install the new version over the old one?
Do I have to completely remove the Personal Edition?
Will I lose my existing db?
Do I have to detach/re-attach?

Can someone please help?

You will want to backup the system databases, detach, uninstall, and reinstall, restore the system databases then reattach. After that you should be up and running.

Don't forget to patch the new install to the current SP4+ service pack level.
