I know I can change the functions of the multimedia buttons on my keyboard in the registry (here: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\AppKey\)
And I know that the constants are:
8 -APPCOMMAND_VOLUME_MUTE
44 - APPCOMMAND_MIC_ON_OFF_TOGGLE

So how do I change my volume mute button into a mic toggle button?

What brand/model Keyboard is this?

In Control Panel under Keyboard are there any options in there for you to make changes?

It's an A4tech keyboard, and no there aren't any settings in the control panel. But I am not after a software solution, I know it must be possible in the registry. I can change the behaviour of the button into launching any application I want, I just don't know how to make it mute/unmute the microphone.

Thanks for the link, but it doesn't tell me anything I don't know already. As you can see, in the table it says key 44 is "toggle microphone" but it doesn't tell how to "call" that function. I suspect it is a ShellExecute but which one?

Anything to do with Sound Properties is controlled by mmsys.cpl.
