change login mode?

how can i change my login mode from graphical to text??...if this includes getting to some sort of prompt, please specify how to get there...lol im still waiting on my book -Greg :-Q

This is probably the most asked question in the Linux forums. I've answered it at least 10 times in the last 3 months.

Open the /etc/inittab file in a text editor (vi) and change the following line...

id:5:initdefault:

...to...

id:3:initdefault:

5 is runlevel 5 (GUI login), and 3 is runlevel 3 (text mode login).
