I have a global group in active directory with 10 users. This group is applied against a share and controls access to that share. I have renamed the group and changed the group type from a global group to a universal group and added 2 more users. Since the change the first 10 users cannot access the share. To rectify this I need to remove the user from the universal group and re-add them into the same universal group.

This tells me that either I cannot rename group or i cannot change a group type (i.e. global to universal) because this changes the SID. Can anyone please confirm which change (rename or group type) has changed the SID?

Have you updated your OS with the latest Service Pack?
