change file association

i used to know how but i forgot. how do i change which program opens files of a particular extension?

windows explorer > view > folder options > file types > edit

Carr is 100% correct but forgot to say that after doing all this YOU MUST REBOOT.

You can also remove the file from the list in Folder Options/File Types, and then select a different program from the list in the 'Open With' utility that appears when you try to open the file.
And make sure to check the box for 'Always use this program to open this file'.
If you cannot find a program to open the file, then click the 'Other' button in 'Open With'.

Or another way is to highlight the file type in Win Explorer, right click on the name whilst holding down shift, choose open with and select the app and tick the always open with
