Ok, everyone has prolly seen the Win XP CD autoinsert notification asking you what you want to do when you insert a cd with a certain filetype.

Well, what I always want it to do is not listed.

So my question is: How do I add things to that list?

For example, if I insert a cd with an .avi file, I want "DivX Player 2.0 Alpha" to open and start playing the file, but that is not an option, and I need to make it one.

TIA KyferEz

If you right click on the file and select properties, you should be able to 'change' the open with program. If Divx doesn't show up in the list when you click the change button, you should be able to 'browse' for the Divx program file. That should do it since you're changing the default program that is associated with the file.

Reread my post. That is not what I was talking about. If I double click the file, it does bring up Divx Player 2.

But what I want is to be able to change the autoinsert notification window's list of programs.

The bit about .avi files and Divx player was just an example. KyferEz

If you use TweekUI you can add Handlers. This will give you any option you want to create in the autorun menu. For example I don't use Windows Media Player so I created an ATI File Player option. Now when I pop in a cd I have the option in the autorun to use what i want. You can get it here:

Ok, thanks!
Now, how do I change a previously assigned autorun?

Right now, when I insert a CD, windows opens an explorer window for me to browse the files on the CD.

How do I kill that and make it give me the window where I can choose what I want it to do?

Thanks again, KyferEz

Here is how to change CD drive actions. Open explorer and right click on you cd drive. Select properties and select the autoplat tab. From here you can select the action the computer will do for each file type. Check over the file types and select prompt me each time to choose an action, or select an action from the list.

Did you like TweekUI? It does a lot of cool things.

Thanks again. That's everything I needed to know.

Yes I like TweakUI, I had just forgotten all about it, and didn't know about those Handlers.

Thanks, KyferEz
