Can anyone help me understand how this works?
I have the following subsections,
Dialed String - (I know I'd type the desired area code here)
Total Min - set as 11
Total Max - set as 11
RTE Pat - set to either 1 2 or den
Call Type - hnpa or fnpa

I know what the dialed string is for but don't know what the other options are for. Can anyone explain this to me?

Total Min - set as 11 11 numbers are required minimum
Total Max - set as 11 11 number Maximum NPA-NXX-XXXX = 11
RTE Pat - set to either 1 2 or den 1 & 2 are Route patterns DEN=Deny You cant dial that number!
Call Type - hnpa or fnpa HNPA-Home Number plan Area your local area code. FNPA foreign number plan area All other area codes. INTL = international, SVCL = Service Call (911,411 ETC) ALRT Crisis alert 911 notifies sets with crisis alert buttons.

jeez man.. you certaintly know your stuff

Does the RTE PAT for 1 and 2. Do each one have different incurring charges? What is route 1 and 2? Sorry for the dumb questions.

you can set the route pattern to any administered route pattern on your system, up to 254 i think. you can then administer different route patterns to route calls over different trunks that can incur different charges.

If u type "list route" u can see all of the routes that your pbx uses. On the route patterns, each preferance for trunk is listed and who can access those trucks based upon their COR of their station. As far as charges, that is based upon the the trunk that they are routed out on. Generally T-1 trunks, usually 23 or 24 channels, are the cheapest, but it is much more envolved than that.
If u go to support.avaya.com there are books on line that will answer some of your questions. U would want to look under Communication systems, then your system, then the adment books.

Routes are a way of flowing a call from the least costly to the most costly. And if you get creative you can limit the no so important people from using the costly trunks. But that is advanced ARS. ARS is Automatic Route Selection. AKA least cost routing.
