Hi,
I'm not sure if this a Coldfusion Problem or a network admin one. I seem to be able to use
CFFILE to create a file on any of my local directories but when I try to create a file on a shared or network directory I get the following error:
Unable to copy file 'c:\savetest1.txt' to path '\\XXX\X\savetest1.txt'. Error: Access is denied. (error 5).
I am able to perform this operation through explorer so I'm not sure what the problem is
any help would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks,

What NT permissions exist on the target directory? I think user System needs write permissions (at least). I suppose it's really the account that Cold Fusion starts under. And I think the target drive needs to be mapped, so that you can use an absolute path, without the UNC slashes. John Hoarty

Hi,

i've tried mapping the drive but with the same problem

Unable to copy file 'c:\savetest1.txt' to path 'f:\savetest1.txt'. Error: Access is denied. (error 5).

the workstation i'm tring to save to has permisions for everyone to have full control, and i am able to edit, save and delete files over the network to this machine.
could it be because the machine has not got a web sharing properties set,
thanks

Okay, I think it has nothing to do with web sharing. And in fact, I think now that you CAN write to a network share. What about checking the permissions at the share level (as opposed to the NT level permissions)? I would bet dollars to donuts that the share is restricted in some way. Again, user system will likely need share-level write access to that drive. John Hoarty

Is there any configuration issues with CF administrator which i have to look into, as if i go into admin and go to mapping and then browse server, i only get the physical drives on my machine rather than any shared drives.
