Does anyone know a good bar code scanner that would fit my Toshiba e740. I have looked at Socket, but they are so expensive. Anything would be helpful.

CF type I or II Bar Code Scanner

You can try Mobileplanet and do a search on scanners. They have type I and type II CF cards from 399 - 470. They tend to be on the expensive side but usually carry a good selection of items.
I did find a Socket Type I scanner card for 360 at
I think if you search the web enough you can find a good deal.
