I am studying diligently for my cert test on SQL Server 2000 Database administration. I have the Microsoft Training kit book and have taken the Microsoft class on SQL database admin and have access to the Measure-up practice tests. While I am getting better at the tests, they often throw in the kind of obscure detail that is not in any of the reference books I have (except maybe Books on Line if you knew exactly what to look for). So I am wondering if some of you who have taken and passed this test can give me advice on the best way to prepare and tell me any books or web links that you found particularly helpful in getting ready to take the test.

Thanks!
Judy

I have taken other Microsoft tests and this is a general rule of thumb.
First of all the class only gives you 70% of what’s on the test by design. They want you to get the rest of it from Books, Experience, Study guides and On Job Training.
I would try to memorize the questions that I did not know. Go over it and over it again.
I used the practice exams to help me learn.
I also used different practice exams, don’t rely on one company. There a re few free ones that give you a 20 question test. Try those and see if you can pass them too. Also mix the questions up. I found that if I started in the same order then I would tend to memorize the answer number and not the information. But above all don’t get discouraged. I talked to several instructors that had more letters behind their name than in it. They all said if you fail one test, so what. Yes it’s a $100.00 but go look over what you did not understand and take it again in a week or so.

Hoep this helps DougP, MCP
