I have a row with numeric cell contents. 2.02, 2.03, 2.04 etc. I want to edit them and replace the . with a / Evertime I do this the cell content change to 2 Feb, 3 Feb, 4 Feb etc. I have tried importing this from a txt file then changing it, or leaving it as a .xls but always the same result.........Really frustrated......

you need to change the formating of the cell.
Is the data simply text? a Date? a number?

If it's text, format the cell as text before making the change. Highlight all of the cells -> Right click and select 'Format Cells' -> under the 'Number' tab select "Text".

If its a date... Replace the . with / and
then change the format of the cell
...-> Under the 'Number' Tab select "custom"
in the "type" box type 'm/dd'

If you want it to be a number, I'm not sure how to do it.

Hi,

You're encountering Excel's intelligence. When your enter 2/3, Excel ASSUMES rhar you're entering a date.

So...

you must FORCE text -- change the cell's FORMAT to Text.
