CDW and DVD conflicts!!

I have an 8x DVD player and a 12x8x32 cdw. The adaptek software says that it canoot read data from the dvd, but I can play dvd on it.

I tried reinstalling the drivers and switching the master/slave/CS options and then tried putting them both on DMA.

this is also a new DVD-ROM. so I have no idea what I am up against.

ANY help or inspiration will be appreciated.
