If it's the lens then a cd cleaner disk will help you out, mine did that a while ago.

Giver a whirl.

i tried cleaning with a paper after opening but it didnt work still the problem remains the same
can anybody tell me what to do??

You should never touch the lens! The drive may be bad or the drivers corrupt. does it give you any messages?

Have you rebooted the computer?
What operating system?
Has it ever worked in this machine using this operating system install?
Have you checked the ASPI version? (aspichk.exe from adaptec's website)
Will it read other CD's? Other types of CD's?
Are you trying to read a CD-R or a CD-RW?
How old is the drive?
How old is the computer?
Can you look in the Device manager and see any problems there?

Good Luck!

... another question? how many different CD Burning progs have you installed, and which ones? ... (too many can hamper reading of CD's as each Burn progy may/or may not have set a certain flag in the registry as to what the OS should do when a CD is inserted. Thus causing the OS to actually do nothing if two Progies try to get access!)
