THis is a new one for me. Running an Athlon 900mHz and XP Pro. My cdroms are displayed fine in "My Computer" and "Windows Explorer." However, in the Device Manager, the are listed under a separate heading "unknown devices" This is new in the last couple of weeks. They used to be listed near the top...CD/DVD devices or something like that. I would figure a hardware problem, except that one of the cd's is a virtual cd drive (from CloneCD). Any ideas on how to make them be properly listed in the device manager? I've done a system restore twice...also installed the latest VIA 4 in 1 drivers to see if that would fix the problem.

Thanks in advance,

No joy here....did the registry edit...found them on the boot up...still in "unknown devices". They work fine...just disconcerting to see them in the wrong place. Not going to worry to much...I'm do for a clean install of XP in mid-March....I'll take care of it then. Thanks for the help.
