All,

One of our guys has installed an old version of Addaptec EZCD creator on his computer (Windows 2000 Pro), I've uninstalled it, but now the standard CDROM drive shows up with an exclamation error in the device manager.

It Says 'This device is not working because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The drivers its using is:

c:\winnt\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys v5.00.2164.1
c:\winnt\system32\drivers\redbook.sys v5.00.2174.1
c:\winnt\system32\storprop.dll v5.00.2195.6655

I have installed SP3 and then SP4 and it's driving me up the wall... have also checked that the bios is ok, it recognises it in the bios ok and can even boot from CD if required.

Hopefully one of you kind people can say "Simple you idiot, just do this"

Many Thanks

Alan

Just delete the CD from the Device Manager, then reboot.

Sorry Lander, I tried it and it found the devices ok but in the device manager it still has an exclamation mark next to it. :(

That is a strange one, as it should pull the Plug&Play drivers for the device.

I checked my system and the CD is using the same drives you've listed, except their version is all the same as the last one (v5.00.2195.6655). Perhaps that's what's causing the issue?

I remember from long time ago that Easy CD Creator could mess up the aspi layer. Try to do a search on roxio.com for something along the lines of aspi check, winaspi etc...
Its worth a shot...

Guys, Thanks for your help!

BIS, I salute you, it worked like a dream. I removed the segments from the registry, restarted and hey presto! Theres the CDROM drive!

For me, this is what the internet is all about. I'm gobsmacked.

Thanks

Alan

I'd buy you both a beer! Been on that one for 2-3 days on off.
