Wonder if anybody can help. The switch i'm dialled into has the software level of G3csiV9. We are in the ip-services form and we are trying to add CDR1 into the service type field and it won't allow us to enter it as the only option is SAT. Is this to do with the Software level? as we know its possible in V12.

Probably is some feature not enabled in your system-parameters customer-options form, probably the feature External Billing.
The R9 system has the hability to create a tcp/ip data stream so in the ip-service form it should allow you to add a CDR1 interface, otherwise is something not enabled in the customer form.
