CDI ???

Hi,

I get this error in my daemon log

nsrmmd #2: unable to complete CDI get TapeAlert call
nsrd: media warning: \\.\Tape1 writing: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error., at file 120 record 2

This cause NW assigned status FULL to my media. All tapes are new and only some get this error . Any idea ???

What is CDI??? can i disable it? will it solve my status FULL problem ???

CDI = Common Device Interface
A new driver mechanism that Legato installs by default (if possible) with NW 7.x. The main benefit is that NW now, along with (HP's) TapeAlert function, now can act on tape drive requests like cleaning etc.

- Yes, you can disable it by selecting the CDI option "SCSI commands"
- It might not work. NW sets a media to full if it encounters an unrecoverable
write error.

To verify, check whether ntbackup runs with the new media. Have those been witten somewhere else? Another density?

I also have the Problem with the I/O errors and the tapes are then marked FULL. It is always the same group witch makes the problems no matter whether the tapes are old or new. it is also unimportant in witch slot the tape fpr this group is. all other 7 groups run perfect - a´nyone an idea?

NW will only mark a tape full before it reached the end of tape if it cannot recover from a write error. It may even disable the device(s).

If this problem exclusively exists with a specific group you most likely use a specific media pool (and devices) for these backups. At least there should be a different media charge be involved.

No I have only one Device(Autoloader) and 3 other groups witch use the same media have not the problem -there are no errors in the deamon.log

An autoloader is not a device as it does not use the backup media. I am talking about the tape drives.

There must be something that is specific to that failing group and most. Lookup your pools configuration that is used at this point in time - you most likely have selected
a certain device here.

The autoloader has only one tape drive and the pool for this group has identic configuration to other pools.

Sorry mckillah, NW would not even allow you to configure two pools with identic configurations. The reason is clear - he would not know where to send the data to. Just try it.
