The windows xp home edition o/s on my computer won't run the directcd program that my HP Cd-Writer 8100 series internal drive uses. Without this program, I can't make cds or save files onto a cd. Will someone please tell me how to get this program to work on windows xp or give me the name or a new program that will do this????? Thanks

If you go here:

and check Storage/CD-RW, you'll find:

Hewlett-Packard
CDRW-8100

Thanks for the info but that still doesnt solve my problem of my directcd program not working. Is there any update for that program that will make it compatible for windows xp?

EasyCD Creator 5 will work with a patch from Roxio's site.

Without installing EasyCD Creator you get basic CD-burning already, it comes built-in with XP.

This doesn't give you DirectCD though, and so far I haven't seen a patch for earlier EasyCD packages (like version 4.x).

Most people get themselves in trouble using DirectCD anyhow. But that's another story.

I work with a lot of systems that use WINXP Home and Pro, the only software I can find that will work with these O/S's is Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5 PLATINUM if you don'to want to use the built-in burner.

NTI CD Maker Pro, Nero 5.5, and Sony CDXtreme all work with XP. Cheers,

Thought this might help:

Windows XP and Roxio direct CD will not work together because in a sense, they already are. WinXP is capable of burning to CD through explorer already because they integrated Direct CD into explorer, you don't need to install direct CD, its already there by default, just try to burn in explorer and it will work.

I REALLY WISH THAT PEOPLE WOULD READ THE MANUFACTURE WEB SITE.
ROXIO HAS STATED THAT DIRECTCD IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH XP.
really it thats simple.. unless you are installing the NEWEST RETAIL version of EZCD5.x go to the ROXI web site and read there instructions.

PS: the upgraded patches to make EZCD5 work with XP are now on the web site.

With xp's software I was only to write once to my disk both cdr and cdrws cdr's can be rewritten as long as they are on blank tracks, xp doesn't seem to do this.

Right now too I have an issue about copying my cdrw files (udf) to the documents folder and cannot seem to do so.
if anyone would know how this can be corrected that would be great. Thanks for your time.

A word of warning .....
Do not install roxios direct CD version 4
It will totally screw up your cdrom drivers and you will lose access to your CDROM,CDRW and it is quite tricky to get them back.

Hum, I think you may have a possibilty to disable they incorrect drivers by editing the registry HKLM\system\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{some awfull numbers, but the one with Class string key = CDROM} and removing the roxios entries in LowerFilters

By the way, new InCD of Ahead works perfectly under XP for UDF CD-RW. This is probably the software you need. David Burg,

Roxio and there CDR/w program is having so many problems that it s wonder that any body can get CDR/W to work. I was beta tester of WindowsXP. and never had a problem with any of my CDReaders or CDRW's. Now that i have clean installed the final version. I lost all ability to cut CDR/W's using EZCD5.xx. So finally MS issued a patch to allow EZCD4.x to work in XP. Yes finally now using Final XP (Pro) verion EZCD4.02 installed and works great, i have also patched to EZCD4.05 in XP. It seem that the final version of XP ...ROXIO failed to install the approval for many different CDR/W's. For evry body that EZCD5 will not work ... recommend that u get the MS patch for EZCD4 then install and upgrade to 4.05.

ROXIO is bad (personal opinion) and maybe some day they will put the Adaptec drivers back into ROXIO. PS: Nero works great in XP any version of NERO.
