Running WinME with DirectX 8.1. I have a LGE CD RW GCE8160B cd writer and have been using Roxio ECDC 5.1 with great success for over a year now.

I went to use the writer today and got the message
"Creator API"
'Easy CD creation engine initialization has failed: (could not initialise engine)

I cleared the warning, then got "CD copier could not locate a supported CD Rom reader. You will not be able to make disc to disc copies"

I cleared that and then got the final warning "CreatorAPI can't see all the cdroms i the system. Please check if they are connected properly"

I have 2 cd drives and both are working fine. I last used the CD writer about 2 weeks ago with no problem. I have uninstalled, then reinstalled the programme, with noluck.

The Roxio website says there are no further updates for my CD RW and that it is supported with my present software. The writers drivers are up to date.

My thinking is that something has been removed, but surely it would be reinstalled when I reinstall the software?

What next?

Take the software off and reboot. Next, remove the device from device manager and reboot. Windows should pick it up as new hardware and prompt you to reinstall the drivers. Then put the software back on. Hope this helps.

Tried it - no luck.
The device now shows up under 'other device', recognised as the make and model, playing discs, but not writing cd's.

Tried it on a friends system and it works.

Has to be some software screwed up?
