Having problems with an LG CDRW GCE 8160B writer, Took it out to try on a friends machine and all fine.
When i go to install back in my machine it is shown as 'other device'. It plays discs fine, but is not recognised as a writing device.

It has worked for 12 months and installed easily before.
Where to now? there are no drivers for the device. I run WinME

The software that enables the drive to burn CD's is either missing or corrupt(Windows drivers enable it to read CD's).
Did you install any burning software when you got the writer? If so and you still have it on a CD, then uninstall the software in Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs, and reinstall it.
If the writer came with the system and the burning software was already installed and/or you do not have the burning software on a CD, then either contact the manuf. or supplier for a copy, or buy one.
