cd-rw only cd-rom in Win98

Here is the problem. I have a win98 machine. It's an older compaq. I am actually (trying) to install this new burner for a friend of mine. I took out the old cd-rom as it was not needed. So I just put the new on in it's place. I tried to update the drivers and what not. It's a Sony burner model number CRX230ED. I tried to mate it with Nero Burning Rom version 5.5.9.14. I am some what stumped with this. Any help is welcome!

Is that model of Sony a supported model with Nero?

Umm, more information please!

Are you getting an error? Is the drive showing as a Sony in Windows? Was Nero installed to begin with, or did you install it afterwards?

Yep, practically all mainstream CD burners are supported by Nero Burning ROM 5.5.x.x, and the retail version of some older Sony's come bundled with it.

I am getting no errors. The drive shows up in the Device Manager as a Sony. While My Computer shows it only has a CD-ROM Drive. I have found a few files from Sony's site reguarding this drive, but still no luck. I will try the update to Nero and see what happens.

cdogg - I installed the drive, then put Nero onto the system. This is the first and only time I've run into something like this. I have also check the BIOS on the computer and everything seems normal.

I am new to this forum, so I don't know how to edit my last post, but I got the burner to work. Updated Nero I think was the answer, although I did run that one program from Sony.
