cd-rw, cannot load acm wrapper 1

Philips CD-rw using adaptec direct cd and easy cd creator
direct cd works ok - easy cd creator gives error message:
engine inilization failed-cannot load ACM wrapper
I have tried reinstalling the software

This is a long shot, does the software require Direct-X and is it installed and/or the right number?
