When I try to use my CD ROM I get the message 'D:\ not accessible, device is not ready'. This used to happen only sometimes but now it wn't work at all.
It does power up as the light comes on but won't spin the disc. I have checked the cables.

While I'm asking, I also have a problem with my printer. It keeps throwing up an error and I have to restart the computer. I can use it once or twice per restart but always
fails on the third or fourth use.

Any help will be appreciated.

I've gone though 3 cheap CD-ROMs. As far as I can tell, they just go bad. I sat down and paid good money for a SCSI Plextor CD burner that I also use as my main CD-ROM and haven't had a problem since.

As to your printer, have you called tech support? Heck, did you call tech support for your CD-ROM?

Hi,

Some CD ROMS are more fussy than others when it comes to the cleaness and colour of your Compact Disc. Try silver/blue/gold and see if it works.

You could also try blowing out the CD ROM with compressed air (in a can) to get rid of any dust on the laser.

Worst case scenario is your laser head has given up the ghost and no amount of cleaning or jiggling is going to bring it back, Its time to buy another one which will probably go at twice the speed and 1/2 the price of your old one !!!

regards
