CD-ROM not in My Computer - XP Pro

Hi there,

I have a user who is currently attending conventions in the States however he is reporting his internal CDRW in his Sony Vaio is not appearing in My Computer yet it appears in the Device Manager and says everything is ok. I've asked him to uninstall/reinstall the drive from the Device Manager however this has not helped.

Any ideas why the drive is not appearing in My Computer?

The setting may set to hide the ICON. Check to see if it is set to hide icon.

Could you elaborate a bit please? Where is this setting? I can't check the properties of the icon as it doesn't appear!

Go to start, control panel, folder options, view, hide files and folders make sure the cicrle is filled that says, show all hidden files and folders. Then hit the apply to all folders button.
